Inspiring Innovation for Sustainability: FAiR Project Spotlight on Bernama TV

In a meaningful convergence of education, creativity, and sustainability, Bernama TV recently featured an insightful interview with Professor Sylvester Arnab of Coventry University, UK, on the popular morning segment Apa Khabar Malaysia. Conducted via Zoom, the interview shed light on the groundbreaking FAiR (Future-ready Applied Innovation & Research) project—a vibrant international collaboration between Coventry University and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).

The segment, aired on Tuesday, 1st July, 10AM delved into how the FAiR project is fostering transnational cooperation in research and innovation between Malaysia and the United Kingdom. Prof. Sylvester, a game design and applied innovation expert, also serves as the principal investigator (PI) of the project. His discussion provided a compelling look at how academic institutions can drive sustainable development and empower communities through creative solutions.

The FAiR project is designed to strengthen ties between UK and Malaysian higher education institutions by promoting collaborative research that aligns with the global sustainability agenda. During the interview, Prof. Sylvester highlighted how FAiR embraces community-driven innovation, digital creativity, and experiential learning to tackle real-world challenges, particularly within underserved or rural communities.

UNIMAS, known for its strong community engagement and digital innovation, plays a key role in the implementation of FAiR on the ground. Together with Coventry University, the teams are co-creating frameworks and toolkits that enable students, educators, and local stakeholders to design context-aware solutions for sustainability.

The FAiR project is a reflection of a broader movement within global academia to break down silos and co-create knowledge across cultural and disciplinary boundaries. By featuring this collaboration on national television, Bernama TV helped amplify the importance of international partnerships in addressing shared sustainability challenges.

The interview concluded with a hopeful message: through trust-based collaboration and a commitment to creativity, institutions like Coventry University and UNIMAS are paving the way for a more inclusive, innovative, and sustainable future.
