21st International Congress for Tropical Medicine and Malaria (ICTMM 2024)

On 19 September 2024, the Gamification Approaches in Improving Awareness on Tropical Diseases workshop was successfully conducted at the Gamification Centre, UNIMAS, as part of the 21st ICTMM 2024. The session, led by Assoc Prof Dr. Jacey Lynn Minoi from the Gamification Centre, UNIMAS and Dr. Paul Cliff Simon Divis from the Malaria Research Centre, UNIMAS, provided valuable insights into using gamification as a tool for health education.

Participants, including 5 international attendees from Saudi Arabia, Australia, the Philippines, and Myanmar, as well as 11 Malaysian participants, collaborated to develop interactive games aimed at raising awareness about Malaria, Japanese Encephalitis (JE) Virus, and other tropical diseases.

The workshop demonstrated how gamification can effectively engage diverse audiences, making critical health information accessible and engaging. Through this approach, participants created innovative educational tools designed to promote awareness and encourage proactive health behaviors. This workshop exemplified how modern educational techniques, such as gamification, can play a crucial role in tackling global health challenges.
