Bringing Nature to Life: Mural Painting at Kampung Pasir Pandak
From 9th to 11th May, the serene village of Kampung Pasir Pandak came alive with brushes, colors, and a beautiful blend of creativity and community spirit. As part of FAiR Project, a mural painting activity was organized to raise awareness about the importance of nature and the environment—and to do so in the most creative way possible!
This vibrant initiative wasn’t just about paint on walls—it was about people coming together, sharing ideas, and using art to spark conversations about the natural world around us. Designed by renowned local artist Angelina Bong, the mural reflects the lush biodiversity of the kampung and the vital role that communities play in protecting their environment. Think irrawady dolphins, empesut (finless porpoise), a saltwater crocodile, leafy mangrove forests, wavy beach—and all the quiet beauty we sometimes forget to appreciate.
What made this project extra special was the active involvement of the Kampung Pasir Pandak community. Residents lent their hands (and hearts!) to the painting process, alongside five enthusiastic volunteers who helped bring the mural to life. It was three days of fun, laughter, teamwork—and a little bit of paint on clothes (and maybe faces).
“This project shows that environmental awareness doesn’t always need to be taught in a classroom. Sometimes, it’s something you can create together with a paintbrush and a good conversation,” said one of the volunteers.
Art has a unique way of connecting people, and this mural now stands proudly as a reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together for a common cause. Whether you’re walking through Kampung Pasir Pandak or just passing by, the mural invites you to pause, reflect, and remember the beauty of the world we live in—and why it’s worth protecting.
Big thanks to everyone who took part in this joyful, colorful experience. Let’s continue to keep nature in the picture.
